The City of De Soto renewed the contract with Waste Management of St. Louis-South, effective April 30, 2006, with a 3-year contract.

Waste Management provides our residents with trash, recycling and yard waste services on a regular basis.

BASIC SERVICE

One 90-gallon trash tote and one recycling container are included.  Please have all items at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the day of service.  In addition to the 90-gallon tote, additional tied plastic bags or trash containers may be placed at the curb.  All bags or containers must weigh less than 50 lbs each.  Please break down any cardboard boxes.

  • BULK ITEMS:  One bulk item can be set out with the weekly pick-up.  Bulk items include household furnishings, mattresses, sofas, chairs, and other large items other than "major household appliances".  Items are asked to be small enough for two men to handle safely.
  • MAJOR HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES:  This includes refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, water heaters, trash compactors, dishwashers, microwave ovens, ranges, stoves, and other similar items that can be safely handled by two men.  These items can be picked up for a prepaid fee of $35.00 per item and must be scheduled in advance for pickup.  Call Waste Management directly for more information 636-586-7734.
  • EXCLUDED ITEMS:  Items that will not be picked up by Waste Management include:  auto parts, tires, batteries, or other hazardous materials such as paint and chemicals.  Only empty paint cans without lids and no liquid inside will be accepted.

The recycling program is a voluntary effort.  The items that Waste Management includes in the recycle program include:

  • Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, phone books, cardboard, glass bottles, jars (no lids), aluminum and tin cans (no lids), plastic milk containers, soda, and one-gallon water bottles and other plastic food containers.

A recycle bin is provided as part of the service.  Please rinse all recyclables before placing them in the bin.  If it si raining, please do not put paper items out, as they cannot be recycled when wet.

The recycle pick up date is always every other Wednesday.  Please contact City Hall to determine what service schedule you are on.

Beginning January 1, 2007, Waste Management has started a program to recycle cell phones and inkjet cartridges.  Plastic mailers are provided to mail, postage paid, any cell phones or empty inkjet cartridges.  If you need additional mailers, please contact City Hall.

Yard Waste

Yardwaste consists of grass clippings, leaves, brush, gardening remains, tree limbs/branches (4ft. lengths, bundled and tied) and shrub trimmings.  Compost must be contained in BIODEGRADABLE KRAFT PAPER compost bags, or loose in a standard 32-gallon trash can.  Containers must be clearly marked "YARDWASTE".  All bags or cans must weigh less than 50 lbs each.  NO PLASTIC BAGS can be accepted for compost disposal.  It is a Missouri Law that compost cannot be mixed with your household trash.  Yardwaste is collected the last Wednesday of each month.

CITY WIDE CLEANUP

Waste Management will provide an annual city wide cleanup designed to assist residents who wish to discard those not so collectible items that accumulate each year.  Items are to be set out at the same location as the refuse, no later than 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled Saturday.  Residents are asked not to set out debris for the Clean-Up prior to Friday.  Trucks will go by each residential address and stop once.  There will be no callbacks.

  • Items Included:  TV's, bikes, swing sets (broken down), furniture, home remodeling debris (neatly stacked), windows, all types of wood (must have all nails removed), metal drums (no lids or bottoms).
